Information About CSAs

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture.  Members of the community become members of the farm by purchasing a “share of the farm harvest”.  Members benefit by receiving fresh, pesticide free vegetables grown by people you know.  The farmer benefits by having a predictable early income available to purchase seeds and supplies.  The farmer can also spend more time farming instead of looking for places to sell their produce as they know in advance how much they need to grow for the season.  This allows more concentration on the actual farm work leading to better crops.

CSA’s help keep local small farms farming and help preserve local farm land.

CSA members have a relationship with the people growing their food and can see the techniques used to produce it.  If you want to see the farm for a visit you are more than welcome, please call ahead so that we can be sure someone is available to show you around.

We grow a large variety of vegetables and in season you will see them arrive in all their fresh deliciousness.  At the beginning of your share will be lots of greens, both lettuces and cooking greens, radishes and salad turnips.  Then towards the end of June and into July you will see the wide variety of summer veggies begin like tomatoes, cukes, squashes, broccoli and more.  Then into August we see fresh sweet corn, melons, eggplant, peppers, onions and so much more.  Then into September we see the beginning of storage veggies, like winter squash, potatoes, beets, carrots, cabbages & kale.  That is a snapshot of your share, but there will be some surprises too.

2018 Summer CSA

Autumn Harvest Farm is once again offering our Summer CSA with three share sizes available and a whole lot of flexibility:

        Family Size Share   •   12 - 15 Items   •   $550
        Couple Size Share   •   8 - 9 Items   •   $385
        Individual Size Share   •   5 - 6 Items   •   $225

Details:

*  Our CSA will run for 17 weeks this summer from June to October.

*  CSA pick up is at Autumn Harvest Farm once a week..

*  You may pick up any day that works for you each week and it can change from one week to the next depending upon your schedule.

*  Just show up and check your name off the list then pick out your items from the list on the board.  Depending upon what’s in the garden, this could change daily.

*  Eggs and bread will be offered each week as one of the choices so you can pick them only when/if you want them.  Eggs and bread are not available for doubling up, only 1 dozen eggs and one bread item (loaf of bread, tin of rolls, bag of croutons or frozen pizza dough) per week-no exceptions.

*  At the beginning of the season when the choices are a little less plentiful and still growing you will get the lower amount of items and it will increase as the gardens produce more throughout the summer season.

*  We are also having many pick your own items, especially the more labor intensive ones like beans, peas, cherry tomatoes and strawberries.  This will help us keep our costs down and allow you to get involved on the farm.

*  We hope to offer pick your own flowers and herbs for a fee or as one of the choices for your share.

*  We realize summers are busy and you may miss a share pick up once or twice.  If you miss a week, we’ll let you double up the following week for the week you missed.  If you miss your share more than two times during the season, we suggest giving it to a friend, offering it to someone in need of fresh food or donating it to a food pantry.

*  Sign up and pay in February and get an extra week of your CSA.  Deadline is May 15, 2018.
